this week we resumed our homeschool life back at our homeschool co-op. i enjoy the break from the everyday....being at home thing. there are so many diverse people there. i don't mean ethnically....religiously, i guess you could say. it swings from your basic vineyardy type person to your basic southern baptist person. i have, however found my little niche, i think (in the nursery....). i like my friends with whom i hang out with there and our conversations. i've accidentally cussed there and talked about sex, breastfeeding, what to do when your kid bites......etc.. there are MANY different opinions, some of which i agree with, some of which i oppose. we all seem to get along anyway. the only thing i wish i could change are the simple, small prejudices that occur. they actually turn into big prejudices that affect more than just one person. young girls for example. it's the same difficulties with homeschool kids as i remember in junior high. one girl excluded from the "group". the bad thing is here the moms are involved. the moms have to watch in person and be pained for their daughter. and then you throw God into the mix and it gets WAY messier. so what do you do? do you encourage your daughter to fight for herself? to stand up? do you get GET involved? or do you sit back every week watching that pained look on your kids' face when she gets passed by. i feel for my friend who is having to go through this.
he is my husband and he is camping in the snow at the farm with 3 other brave (or insane) boys. i am warm and cozy in my house..hee hee hee. nora bell is here and cora is lovin life. they actually slept! the other night at dinner we got on the subject of marriage and aidan asked cora who she was going to marry.....and very dreamily she said "nora". it was too cute but let's hope THAT doesn't come true.....
okay, i know, it's vain and self-serving.....BUT i found a great website for shoes! it's www.zappos.com (angie if you could tell me again how to link THAT would be awesome!). i found a great pair of docs that i've not seen in stores (especially in cincinnati)....they were 30bucks off normal price AND free shipping AND if they don't fit or i don't like them free returns WITH free return shipping. this could be dangerous.....
i posted awhile ago that we had found a church thing in indiana. well, that church thing is still there, but we decided that driving 30 minutes was a bit ridiculous. i think going to church in your neighborhood makes the most sense and since we're not moving to indiana anytime soon....we've checked out a presbyterian church nearby. aidan's guitar teacher leads worship there and david knows some other guy who goes there. it definitely makes sense to drive 5 minutes up the road for a church meeting. i mean, the reality is i don't really want another church meeting.....i want relationships. which i have, just not with the people at that church. but hopefully while we live in this space, we will develop relationships with people who attend that meeting and it will be fine. so, i'm sorta sad because i really like my friends in indiana and would love to do the church thing with them BUT for now this is where we are.
my husband comes in the kitchen as i'm starting to fix dinner and says "i'm craving vietnamese" and we pack everyone up and head to song long for a dinner that someone else has fixed and fixed very well, i might add. yeah, i love eating out.
seems like my mind is carried with thoughts of those suffering with the tsunami damage. then my thoughts wander to my friends here trying to adopt three siblings whose birth mother is 19 and has not a clue. my friends have four teenagers and decided two years ago that their hearts and minds were huge enough to give a home to more. so, started a lengthy process of legal stuff and this past fall were called to give a home to three small children. now, they wait again. the children have to go through the court system and the birth mother's rights have to be taken away for my friends to finally be these children's parents. i have mixed emotions. i know the best thing for the kids is to be raised in a loving, warm, safe home. that would be with my friends. but, i get sorta sad thinking about the birth mom. she's SO young and if her rights are taken now, then any other children she has are immediately taken from her. what if she changes? what if she, at 30 something is a completely different person, has a kid...what then? is there an amount of time that goes by....then she gets her rights back or does she have to give up every child she bears? of course i want the best thing for the kids. living with their birth mom is not. i think their life was one of neglect and abuse. it has to be pretty bad to end up in a foster to adopt program. so tonight, as my kids run around with their sounds of happiness....i say a prayer for those whose lives are completely changed by one act of nature and hope they will find their way home.
