ode to a friend

every fall i think about my friend who is more like a sister who i see very little of anymore who i wish i could see every day. she loves corduroys. i, however, have avoided them because of vietjuniorhigh flashbacks. there was this kid in my school who lived in his corduroys. they seemed to never get washed, and he quite often offered me unwrapped lifesavers from the very pocket of these pants. SO, this fall...yes, 25 years later, at 37 years of age, i decided it was time to break loose from the past and purchase a pair of corduroys. A. the color was cool B. the price was right and most of all C. they reminded me of my friend. SO....now i know what all the excitement is about and why she LOVES breaking out her cords and why whats-his-face in junior high wore them every day for 3 years. they are the most comfy pants i have EVER worn. yes friends, they feel like second skin! i actually feel naked. naked, but nice and warm. i think i've had them on every day now for about a week (and they haven't been washed). they are the best pants ever. so now i can don my lovely cords, be purged from my past, AND think about one of my best sister-buddies in the whole world.

love 'em hate 'em

no, this is not a post about my FIVE children. although, there are days.....

this is a post about cell phones. love 'em when i'm stuck on the highway alone with a flat tire or an empty tank of gas. hate 'em when i want to have a conversation with the person in the car with me and instead i'm listening to a one-ended one. love 'em when i'm shopping and i see something i think someone might want and i call them and it's exactly what they want and i can get it for them at a really good price. hate 'em when i'm shopping and someone calls me and asks me can i please get them exactly what they want at a really good price. love 'em when i've forgotten something at home and i call to remind the ones still at home to bring the something i've forgotten. hate 'em when i'm at home and i'm called to bring the something that was forgotten. love 'em when i've programmed the nice quiet ring. hate 'em when my 11 year old has programmed the nice loud song from the 70's game show. love 'em for the convenience. hate 'em for making my life more complicated...
