saying a prayer

seems like my mind is carried with thoughts of those suffering with the tsunami damage. then my thoughts wander to my friends here trying to adopt three siblings whose birth mother is 19 and has not a clue. my friends have four teenagers and decided two years ago that their hearts and minds were huge enough to give a home to more. so, started a lengthy process of legal stuff and this past fall were called to give a home to three small children. now, they wait again. the children have to go through the court system and the birth mother's rights have to be taken away for my friends to finally be these children's parents. i have mixed emotions. i know the best thing for the kids is to be raised in a loving, warm, safe home. that would be with my friends. but, i get sorta sad thinking about the birth mom. she's SO young and if her rights are taken now, then any other children she has are immediately taken from her. what if she changes? what if she, at 30 something is a completely different person, has a kid...what then? is there an amount of time that goes by....then she gets her rights back or does she have to give up every child she bears? of course i want the best thing for the kids. living with their birth mom is not. i think their life was one of neglect and abuse. it has to be pretty bad to end up in a foster to adopt program. so tonight, as my kids run around with their sounds of happiness....i say a prayer for those whose lives are completely changed by one act of nature and hope they will find their way home.
